Maybe I’m just getting old. I find myself reminiscing about the old days. Pretty soon I’ll have to start calling them the “olden days.”
Take Jake From State Farm. I can remember when he was white. What’s the deal with that?
Suppose you’re a struggling actor. You’ve got a few years on you, and you finally get a good gig. You create a character for a tv commercial. You are Jake From State Farm.
Then corporate decides to replace you with a young black guy. Is that affirmative action? To make up for State Farm’s actions in antebellum times, when all their insurance agents were slaves? All the beatings they got when they didn’t reach their quota?
Well, I guess it makes sense then. But things sure ain’t like they used to be.
